A wartime leather coat made for Sweden’s Pansartrupperna armoured forces. Built for steel interiors, confined movement, and long northern winters, it reflects the disciplined restraint of Swedish military design during the Second World War.
Manufactured by Örebro, the coat is cut with controlled authority. The five button double breasted front closes high and secure beneath structured lapels that sit clean and balanced. The shoulder line is firm without excess. At the rear, a half belt shapes the waist just enough to maintain form while preserving mobility. The length is deliberate and vehicle minded, protective yet workable. Nothing is decorative. Every line serves purpose.
The black goatskin is the defining element. Dense yet flexible, selected for resilience without unnecessary weight. It carries the kind of tight, expressive grain only period goat develops, now settled into an even, composed patina. The leather retains excellent structure and presence. It stands correctly on the body. It feels substantial in the hand.
Inside, the wool lining remains correct and well preserved. The hand painted P17 marking is clear and undisturbed. In Swedish military terminology, P denotes Pansartrupperna, the armoured troops. The painted numbering would have identified this coat within a unit equipment pool. It is a simple marking, but it anchors the garment firmly to its service context.
Örebro wartime production was measured and uncompromising. All buttons remain secure. The rear belt is intact. Construction throughout is robust and consistent, without unnecessary embellishment.
Condition is excellent for a garment approaching eighty years of age. The goatskin remains supple and structurally sound with minimal wear. The lining shows only light signs of time. The painted unit marking remains legible. It presents complete, composed, and entirely honest.
Swedish WWII military leather was produced in limited numbers, particularly for armoured units. Surviving Pansartrupperna examples with intact contractor identification and clear unit markings in this level of preservation are increasingly scarce.
This is not simply a military coat. It is a working garment from a modernising armoured force, preserved with integrity and presence.
It remains exactly what it was made to be. Purposeful. Measured. Uncompromising.
