A Schott NYC AT877 leather jacket produced in the United States during the late 1980s, reflecting a period where the brand moved toward cleaner, more streamlined silhouettes while maintaining its established standards of material and construction. This example presents a simplified rider influenced form with an emphasis on practicality and everyday wear.

The silhouette follows a restrained café racer configuration, sitting at the waist with a balanced and controlled profile. The front is defined by a straight zip closure with a leather pull tab, paired with angled hand pockets set into the body. The stand collar fastens securely at the neck, maintaining a clean neckline and functional finish consistent with the style.

Constructed from substantial cowhide, the leather has developed a warm, natural tone with visible variation across the panels. The hide retains a firm, structured handle while having softened through wear, giving it a supple and broken in feel without compromising integrity. The surface shows natural grain throughout, with light creasing adding depth and character in line with age.

The jacket carries a solid weight, reflecting the density of the leather and overall quality of construction. The overall structure remains clean and well balanced, allowing the jacket to sit naturally when worn.

Internally, the jacket is finished in a lightweight lining typical of Schott’s production during this period, supporting the structure without unnecessary bulk. The internal pocket label has worn away through age and use, which is not uncommon for jackets of this period. Identification has been made through construction, materials, and remaining labels, including the Schott NYC neck label and Made in USA tag, alongside the specific cut and detailing consistent with the AT877 pattern.

Hardware throughout is original and period correct. The front zip operates smoothly and sits properly within the jacket, with all components functioning as intended.

This is a lesser seen Schott model, with few examples appearing on the market, particularly in this condition. It represents a later twentieth century interpretation of the rider style, where material quality and practical construction take precedence over excess detail.

Condition and Preservation

The jacket presents in very good overall vintage condition.

The leather remains stable, supple and evenly toned, with natural wear and patina consistent with age. There is visible creasing and tonal variation across high movement areas, contributing to the character of the piece without affecting structure. No signs of cracking or dryness are present, and all panels retain integrity.

The internal lining is clean, well preserved and fully intact, showing only light signs of use consistent with age. A tear to the lining adjacent to the internal pocket has been professionally machine repaired in our workshop, restoring full function and ensuring continued durability. The repair sits cleanly within the lining and does not affect wear.

Hardware is complete and operates correctly throughout.

The garment has been professionally cleaned and lightly dressed in our workshop using our in house conditioner, ensuring the leather remains nourished while retaining its original character.
