Vintage Schott I.S. 674 M.S. Steerhide Leather Flight Jacket

The Schott I.S. 674 M.S. is a classic American leather flight jacket, drawing on the functional proportions of military aviation clothing while carrying the substantial construction and distinctive character associated with Schott N.Y.C.

Made in the USA from dark brown steerhide, this example has the compact, purposeful silhouette characteristic of traditional flight jackets. The leather has matured beautifully, developing pronounced grain, natural creasing and subtle tonal variation through genuine age and wear.

The construction is straightforward and functional. A broad pointed leather collar sits above the original IDEAL front zipper, while shoulder epaulettes reinforce the jacket's military influence. Two large patch pockets dominate the lower front, each finished with a shaped flap and original Schott-branded snap hardware.

Deep brown knitted cuffs and a matching waistband draw the jacket closer around the wrists and waist, creating the characteristic blouson profile. Inside, a brown diamond-quilted lining provides additional warmth without the bulk of a shearling-lined flight jacket.

Original identification remains particularly complete. The neck carries the Schott I.S. 674 M.S. Flight Jacket label, accompanied by the American flag Made in USA label and tagged Size 40. The internal identification tag also retains the 674 model reference.

With its substantial steerhide, restrained aviation detailing and naturally matured surface, this is an excellent example of the traditional American leather flight jacket. The combination of original labels, hardware and age-developed character gives it the presence expected from an older Schott while remaining a highly wearable piece.

Condition & Preservation

Excellent vintage condition. The steerhide is strong and supple throughout, retaining its natural grain, creasing and age-developed tonal variation. The original ribbed cuffs and waistband are strong and remain in excellent condition, while the quilted lining, seams and pockets are clean, secure and sound. The jacket has been specialist cleaned and conditioned in-house in our workshop, restoring nourishment and flexibility to the steerhide while preserving its established surface character. The original IDEAL zipper has been refurbished, waxed and polished, and the original ribbing has also been carefully refurbished.
