A Ralph Lauren RL67 leather rider jacket from the 1990s, informed by mid-century American single rider patterns and executed with a more refined, modern sensibility. The design draws clearly from classic motorcycle and cafe racer jackets, retaining the essential elements while presenting a cleaner, more controlled silhouette.
The cut follows a traditional single rider configuration, sitting naturally on the body with a slim profile that remains structured without feeling restrictive. The front is defined by a straightforward zip closure, complemented by horizontal chest zip pockets that reference earlier American utility and rider jackets. A stand collar with snap fastening completes the design, maintaining a functional and composed appearance.
Constructed from heavy full grain cowhide, the leather has a dense, well defined grain and a firm, substantial handle. The surface carries a burnished dark brown finish, with natural tonal variation developed through wear. This has produced a rich, lived-in patina across the panels, giving the jacket depth and character while maintaining strength and long-term stability.
Internally, the jacket is finished with a diamond stitched quilted lining, providing light insulation and structure without adding bulk. The lining sits cleanly within the garment and complements the weight and balance of the outer leather.
Hardware is fitted with Conmar zips throughout, a detail closely associated with mid-century American jackets and consistent with the design language. All components remain fully functional and correctly aligned.
While not a mid-century original, this is a well resolved late twentieth century interpretation of the American rider jacket, produced with quality materials and a more considered approach to fit and finish. The influence of classic motorcycle jackets is evident, while the execution reflects Ralph Lauren’s ability to reinterpret heritage design with restraint.
A strong example of the RL67 line, combining material quality, balanced construction and clear reference to established American patterns.
Condition and Preservation
The jacket presents in excellent vintage condition.
The leather remains firm, stable and evenly toned, with a naturally developed burnished patina across the surface. Visible wear and tonal variation are consistent with use and contribute to the overall character without compromising performance. There are no signs of cracking, dryness or structural weakness, and all panels retain full integrity.
The sleeve zips have been professionally removed by a previous owner to improve comfort through the forearm. This work has been carried out to a high standard behind the wrist area, is difficult to detect, and results in a more practical and wearable sleeve opening while preserving the original structure and appearance.
Hardware is complete and functions as intended. The quilted lining is clean, intact and well preserved.
The garment has been professionally cleaned and conditioned in our workshop to maintain suppleness and protect the surface. No structural restoration has been required.
