This RAF Irvin carries the weight and authority of a jacket built to wartime specification. Made in the early 1990s by City Sheepskins England on original RAF production machinery, it represents a direct continuation of wartime manufacturing rather than a modern interpretation. The label inside says it plainly: a replica of the original Irvin flying jacket, made on the same machines. Same machinery, same quality sheepskin, same construction methods. The result is an exceptionally heavy jacket that feels every bit as serious as the originals it was based on.

The sheepskin is substantial throughout, with dense fleece against the body and a leather exterior that has developed a rich, natural patina through decades of careful wear. The hide shows pronounced grain across the panels, particularly through the back and shoulders. The arms display light, honest surface wear that adds character without compromising the structure beneath. It has aged well, the way quality sheepskin does when it has been properly looked after.

Details are executed to original wartime standards. A wide shearling collar with throat latch offers effective wind protection, while the waist belt allows the fit to be drawn in to retain warmth. Slash hand pockets are positioned for practical access, even with gloved hands. The cut follows original Irvin specification, short through the body with a broad, squared shoulder line designed to balance insulation with movement. Everything about the jacket feels purposeful and resolved.

The jacket has been professionally cleaned and lightly conditioned in house, carried out with restraint to nourish the hide while preserving surface character and patina. Condition is excellent throughout. The structure remains strong, the sheepskin shows no thinning or breakdown, and the leather retains its integrity and presence. It feels complete and confident, a jacket that has earned its character over time without losing its strength.

Early 1990s Irvins produced on original RAF machinery are increasingly sought after for their authenticity and build quality. The weight alone sets them apart. This example stands out for its condition, its natural patina, and its unaltered state. It does not attempt to imitate the past. It continues it, honestly and convincingly.
