The A2 pattern is defined by restraint. Clean lines, balanced proportions and a functional layout that leaves no excess. In this example, it is the leather that commands attention. The brown hide has developed a warm, settled patina across the surface, with soft burnishing along the sleeves, pocket edges and seam lines that only time produces. The tonal depth gives the jacket quiet presence without overpowering the clarity of the design.

Produced by Avirex Ltd, New York, this is a late twentieth century American interpretation of the Type A2 flight jacket. The cut reflects the revival era, with broader shoulders and a more substantial drape through the body than strict wartime contracts. The silhouette remains purposeful and balanced, sitting cleanly at the waist through firm ribbed knits while maintaining structure across the upper frame.

Constructed from mid-weight brown leather, the hide retains excellent integrity across all panels. The grain is consistent and well preserved, with natural creasing developed through wear rather than artificial distressing. High movement areas display gentle surface character, adding depth while maintaining strength. Despite its visible age, the leather remains supple in hand with no dryness or weakness.

Traditional A2 details are correctly executed. Shirt style collar, flap front patch pockets, ribbed cuffs and waistband, and a substantial brass front zip. Internally, the jacket carries Avirex’s printed aviation map lining, referencing wartime navigation charts. The interior labelling includes Type A2 Drawing No. 30 1415 alongside U.S. Army Air Forces markings and Made in U.S.A identification.

The jacket remains in excellent vintage condition. The patina is even and naturally developed, with no cracking, thinning or structural concerns. The knits remain firm and elastic, the zip runs smoothly, stitching is secure throughout, and the lining is bright and intact. No restoration or refinishing has been undertaken. It presents as a carefully preserved example that has matured gracefully while retaining full structural soundness.
