This Schott Perfecto 618 dates from the 1980s and represents a classic period of American motorcycle jacket production, when function, weight, and longevity remained central to the design. The 618 is defined by its shorter, boxier cut and heavier leather specification, built for riding rather than styling, and this example carries those qualities with authority.
Constructed from heavyweight steerhide leather, the jacket retains the dense, firm handle that the 618 is known for. The hide remains structurally sound throughout, holding its shape across the body and sleeves while having softened naturally with wear. Surface character presents as settled creasing, light abrasion, and a distinctive green undertone patina visible across the panels. This colour shift is typical of well aged black steerhide from this era and gives the jacket depth and individuality without compromising integrity.
The jacket follows the classic Perfecto configuration, with an asymmetrical front zip, snap down lapels, angled chest zip pocket, front hand warmer pockets, zippered cuffs, and the original belt and buckle. One snap fastener at the lapel has been replaced at some point in the jacket’s life with a period appropriate popper and functions correctly. All other hardware remains intact and operational.
Internally, the original main Schott neck label is no longer present. The internal model identification label remains intact and confirms the jacket as a Schott 618. The lining shows honest age related wear consistent with use, with no structural issues. The jacket has been professionally cleaned and lightly conditioned in house using a preservation led approach, intended to protect the leather and retain its existing character rather than alter its appearance.
Overall, this is a strong, wearable example of a 1980s Schott Perfecto 618 in a larger size. Sound, confident, and full of natural character, it is well suited to continued wear or considered long term ownership.
