A substantial and increasingly scarce piece of 1960s West German Federal service tailoring. The distinctive blue grey tone and construction are consistent with early Bundesgrenzschutz issue, reflecting the disciplined and operational design of post war federal uniforms.
Cut from heavy cowhide, the leather retains excellent structure and depth of colour. Natural creasing and surface character reflect genuine service use, yet the hide remains strong, supple and structurally sound throughout. The double breasted brass button front is complete and secure, fitted with original Overhoff & Cie Lüdenscheid hardware, a respected West German maker associated with federal service production of the period. The original Zipp zipper functions correctly beneath. The integrated body belt defines the waist and reinforces its formal service profile.
Operational details remain intact, including the original holster and truncheon holder. Shoulder epaulettes are present for rank designation, and the left sleeve shows stitch traces where a period service badge was historically removed, typical of decommissioned service garments.
The interior is lined in moleskin, now showing honest age related wear and period markings that suggest more than one service owner. It remains complete and serviceable.
This jacket has been specialist leather cleaned and carefully conditioned in house to preserve suppleness while retaining its original finish and character.
Condition is excellent vintage for its age. The leather remains dense and well preserved, hardware is fully functional, and all structural elements are secure.
A rare early Federal German leather service jacket in an increasingly difficult to source blue grey tone, well suited to serious collection, display, or continued wear.
