A genuine 1950s German motorcycle jacket, built by RAKA, a manufacturer known for producing robust workwear and garments constructed to military-level specifications. Designed for real riding rather than fashion, this is a true mid-century motorcycle piece with the weight, structure, and detailing to match.

The cowhide is the defining feature. It has worn exactly as it should over time, now soft and supple with a natural, time-earned surface character that reflects decades of use. There is no stiffness or brittleness, just a well-broken-in handle that speaks to the quality of the original hide.

The construction is direct and purposeful. An asymmetric zip-and-button front sits beneath a broad storm collar, fastened with a heavy-duty RUHR zipper, a known German maker of the period. Leather-wrapped ball buttons and braided leather loop closures at the shoulder add further character, with some elements reflecting period repairs and modifications rather than original factory finish, evidence of a jacket that remained in active service rather than being retired.

The shoulders and upper sleeves are reinforced with diamond-quilted stitching, a hallmark of protective motorcycle wear designed to reduce abrasion. Multiple zip pockets are set across the chest and waist, trimmed in contrasting tan leather. A belted waist completes the silhouette, giving the jacket its structured, functional fit typical of riding jackets of the era.

Inside, the jacket is lined in a teal green tartan flannel with red and cream overcheck, a classic mid-century pattern that adds warmth and character while remaining true to the period. Wear is visible internally, with repairs to the underarm lining only, consistent with a jacket that has been maintained and kept in use.

All hardware has been professionally serviced. The zips have been cleaned and lubricated, and the original pull has been retained. It has a slight catch at the very base, typical of age, but functions properly in use once engaged. The leather has been specialist cleaned and lightly conditioned in-house to restore suppleness while preserving its original finish.

This is not a decorative piece. It is a genuine 1950s motorcycle jacket with a working history, honest wear, and construction that reflects its purpose.

Condition

Good vintage condition for age and use.

The cowhide remains strong, supple, and fully wearable, with natural surface wear from decades of use. The leather has softened well and shows no cracking or structural weakness.

All zips have been professionally cleaned and lubricated. The original main zip pull is present and functional, with a slight catch at the base typical of period hardware but not affecting normal use.

Seams are secure throughout, and the jacket holds its structure well. Exterior wear is consistent and honest, adding character without compromising integrity.

Repairs are present to the interior lining at the underarms only, not visible when worn and typical of a jacket that has been kept in service.

Specialist cleaned and lightly conditioned in-house using our own leather formulas.
