Produced in France during the 1950s, this is a civilian motorcycle jacket built with the same practical approach seen in everyday workwear of the period. Made for regular use, with a construction that reflects that intention rather than any decorative finish, it carries a short, shaped cut with a defined waist, giving it that clean mid century European profile.
The leather is what defines it. A dense, full grain vegetable tanned cowhide that still holds its structure, with a surface that has developed a deep, settled patina over time. The grain is visible throughout, with natural creasing, marking, and tonal variation moving across the panels. It’s been worn properly, and it shows, but the hide remains strong and reliable.
The shape is controlled without feeling restrictive. Side buckle adjusters at the waist allow it to be drawn in cleanly, replacing the need for a fixed belt, while matching adjusters at the cuffs keep the proportions consistent across the jacket.
Across the front, everything is kept direct and functional. A central zip runs through the body, fitted with a period correct Conmar pull that operates as it should. Angled hand warmer pockets sit low into the waist, and a shaped chest yoke adds structure through the upper body without excess weight. The collar is broad and softly formed, sitting naturally whether worn open or closed.
Inside, the jacket is lined in wool houndstooth through the body, with cotton lined sleeves for ease of wear. The original Paris label remains in place at the neck, pointing to smaller workshop production typical of the period.
Condition and Preservation
The leather carries a well-developed patina, with visible grain break, tonal variation, and areas of marking built through long-term use. There is light chapping and surface cracking in places, all sitting within the finish without breaking through the hide. The structure remains sound and fully wearable.
Historic underarm repairs are present and have settled in over time as part of the jacket’s working life. The lining shows age-related wear but remains intact and serviceable.
The jacket has been professionally cleaned and conditioned in the workshop to restore balance to the leather while preserving its original tone and patina. All hardware is present and functioning as intended.
A French motorcycle jacket that carries its use openly, with the kind of wear that reflects how it was originally made to be worn.
