This Italian police motorcycle jacket belongs to the disciplined early post war period when patrol units defined visible state authority across Italy’s expanding road networks. It was built as uniform equipment, not civilian fashion, cut to function at speed and in adverse conditions.
The proportions are deliberate. Short through the body to prevent bunching when mounted, firm across the shoulders for stability, drawn in at the waist with side buckle adjusters to control movement in the wind. The snap adjustable stand collar closes securely at the neck, reinforcing its operational intent.
The goatskin is the defining quality. Dense, tight grained and structurally confident, it retains the fibre strength that mid century Italian uniform production demanded. It does not collapse or drape softly. It holds form. Surface distress across the sleeves and high contact areas reflects honest service character, yet the hide remains intact and balanced. There is depth in the leather rather than fragility. All seams are strong and stable.
All hardware is Riri and consistent with Italian manufacture of the era. The central front zip anchors the jacket cleanly. Vertical chest zips provide secure access while mounted. Angled waist zips follow the natural line of the hand. Sleeve zips allow adjustment over gloves. Nothing is decorative. Every element serves a function.
Inside, the original wool lining remains in place, substantial and insulating. It reflects the cold weather demands of motorcycle patrol work. The internal construction remains sound and undisturbed.
The jacket has been specialist leather cleaned to remove decades of surface soiling and residual odours. Conditioning has been carried out sparingly using our workshop blend leather dressings, preserving suppleness while maintaining original tone and finish. Hardware has been cleaned carefully without over-polishing.
Overall condition is very good for a service garment approaching seventy years of age. The leather retains structure, the seams remain secure, and the form of the jacket remains correct.
A genuine early Italian police motorcycle jacket with the proportions, material integrity and period hardware that serious collectors recognise immediately.
Perfect for collection, display and occasional wear.
