French leather blousons from the late 1940s sit at an important point in postwar workwear design, where utility garments began to regain refinement without losing their practical roots. This example reflects that balance clearly. Produced for everyday use rather than display, it combines durable materials with restrained tailoring typical of French civilian outerwear in the years immediately following the war.

The jacket is cut from mid-weight full-grain cowhide, chosen for strength and wearability rather than weight alone. The leather has aged evenly, developing a settled brown patina with a soft matte finish, light surface creasing, and natural tonal variation across the panels. The hide remains supple and structurally sound throughout, with no areas of weakness or collapse. Wear is consistent with long-term use rather than neglect, and the surface character sits comfortably within the grain.

A mouton collar in a deep rust tone provides warmth and contrast, retaining good density and softness. This was a practical feature on French work jackets of the period, offering insulation without adding bulk. The collar shows only light wear and remains well preserved.

Inside, the jacket retains its original brown moleskin lining, a fabric favoured in French workwear for its warmth, durability, and comfort. The lining is clean and intact, showing only light, even wear consistent with age. Stitching remains secure throughout.

The jacket closes with its original Spidex main zipper, operating smoothly and confirming mid-century French manufacture. Two angled front welt pockets are positioned for ease of use, while adjustable side tabs and button-tab cuffs allow the fit to be subtly regulated. The cut is balanced and practical, offering structure through the body while allowing ease of movement.

The jacket has been professionally cleaned and conditioned in-house, using methods appropriate for historic leather. The process focused on preservation rather than cosmetic alteration, restoring flexibility and depth of tone while retaining the original surface character. All seams, components, and fastenings are sound.

Overall condition is very good vintage. The leather remains strong and supple, the collar and lining are well preserved, and all hardware functions as intended. This is a well-made, honest example of late-1940s French leather workwear, valued for material quality, proportion, and authentic wear.
