Crafted in Austria during the late 1940s, this rare Franz Jagerreiter motorcycle jacket stands as a testament to the rebirth of European motorcycling after the war—when riders needed gear that could take a beating but still carry a sense of quiet refinement. Tailored in Wels for function and form, it blends road-ready toughness with an almost bespoke feel, rarely seen in working leathers of the era.
The heavyweight horsehide is rich with patina, naturally creased and full of character. Inside, the original houndstooth wool lining adds texture and warmth. Four zippered pockets—two at the chest, two at the waist—offer practical storage, while the belted waist allows for an adjustable fit. Ritsch zippers remain at the pockets, and the main zip has been thoughtfully replaced with a vintage, period-correct piece to maintain the jacket’s authentic look.
Expertly cleaned and conditioned using specialist techniques developed for heritage horsehide, the leather retains its flexibility and strength while preserving every mark of use. Subtle hand-stitched seam repairs speak to the care it’s received over the decades. Structurally sound and suitable for occasional wear, this jacket is best appreciated as a true collector’s piece—each scuff, stitch, and seam telling its own story.
